THE ONE WHERE I BINGE-WATCHED FRIENDS
Unfortunately, Friends won’t be there for you on Netflix anymore. On January 1, 2020, the rights to the TV show were transferred to WarnerMedia’s HBO Max, which will stream the show when it launches in May.
As a Friends fan who hadn’t seen all the episodes, I embraced the challenge of watching the entire series, in a very short amount of time. I started on October 13th.
10 seasons … 236 episodes … about 88.5 hours of Friends.
Challenge accepted and mission accomplished. I finished the series on December 31st.
This was all inspired by my visit to the Friends NYC Pop-Up. It was the ultimate Friends museum featuring real props from the original sets, perfectly staged photo-ops, and rooms dedicated to each character. The limited time, multi-city, experience was created by Superfly to celebrate the sitcom’s 25th anniversary.
My sister Stephanie and I had a great time peeking through Monica’s iconic purple door, analyzing Phoebe’s candy dollhouse, pivoting Ross’s couch, reclining in Joey & Chandler’s leather chairs, and taking a sip of coffee at Rachel’s former employer, Central Perk. See more photos here.
Friends is one of the funniest, laugh-out-loud, TV shows I’ve ever seen. It’s so good that it’s too hard for me to pick a favorite character or even favorite episode. Honestly, I don’t know if there’s been a show since that even compares.
So thank you Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Ross, and Joey for being ridiculous and putting joy into so many people’s lives.
Here’s to hoping we’ll be seeing “The One With the Reunion” soon.
