MY FAVORITE CINCO DE MAYO MEAL

With Cinco de Mayo right around the corner, I’m getting excited for a night full of tacos, nachos, and sangria!

According to the HISTORY Channel’s website, “Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.”
I’m not of Mexican descent, but it’s become a tradition in my family to celebrate the day with tacos, nachos, and sangria. We’ll even throw on fun-colored sombreros.

Here’s a look at what we put on the table.
TACOS

I love tacos! They’re simple to make, and they’re delicious! You can’t go wrong. A typical taco night at my family consists of the following:
- Ground beef
- Goya Arroz Amarillo yellow rice (mixed with the beef)
- Ortega taco seasoning mix
- Chopped tomatoes
- Chopped lettuce
- Shredded cheese
- Sour cream
- Salsa
- Guacamole
- Ortega Fiesta Flats*
*Fiesta Flats are game changers. Instead of using typical hard shells, my family buys Fiesta Flats which are hardshell rectangular boats that hold a lot more food and don’t crack as easily. Try them once, and I’m sure you won’t go back.
NACHOS

Nachos can be a meal all in itself! The fun thing about making them is that there are no rules. Just throw whatever you want on top of some chips, and you have nachos. I bake mine for about 10-15 minutes on 400° F. Once the cheese on top is fully melted, I take them out. Here’s how I like my nachos:
- Tortilla chips
- Shredded cheese
- Chopped tomatoes
- Corn
- Black beans
- Guacamole
- Sour cream
- Taco meat (if I’m making it a meal)
SANGRIA
Sangria is one of my favorite alcoholic beverages and it pairs well with taco night. I prefer red, but I’ve had some tasty whites. Recently, I’ve been enjoying Yellowtail’s sangria. Adding fruit isn’t necessary, but I do like chopped apples in mine.

Disclaimer: I fully support celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a margarita, but tequila isn’t my thing!
Whether you’re planning on having tacos or a different dish, I hope this Cinco de Mayo brings you lots of joy and tasty food!
