ZIP LINING OVER ‘OUT OF AFRICA WILDLIFE PARK’ IN CAMP VERDE, AZ

When it comes to adventuring, zip lining is something Chris and I really enjoy doing. The thrill of zipping down the line and taking in all the surroundings never gets old. While preparing for our trip to Arizona back in November 2021, I came across a zip lining experience that I knew we couldn’t pass up. It was a zip line tour over a wildlife park – above actual animals in their caged habitats.

Predator Zip Lines has three different tour options at Out of Africa Wildlife Park in Camp Verde, AZ. We chose the two-hour Predator tour which features five lines and one suspension bridge. The tour started out with a jeep ride through part of the zoo, which dropped us off at the first line. We then climbed the tower, and it was all zipping down from there!

While climbing and zipping, we saw lions, tigers, gray wolves, ibexes, giraffes, and more. It was really cool to see these animals from an aerial perspective. Our two guides were very knowledgeable about all the animals in the park and gave us fun facts and answered lots of questions throughout the tour.

The giraffe exhibit was definitely the showstopper. It was the last line of the tour, and most exciting. Since the line runs directly over the giraffe exhibit, and giraffes are obviously really tall, and unpredictable, we actually had to wait for the giraffes to move over before we could zip line to home base.

While we were waiting for the coast to be clear, one of our guides told us a story of a past zip liner who accidentally kicked the giraffe on his way down. The giraffe was totally fine, but the man shattered his foot! So naturally, we were all on high alert, especially Chris who is 6’5″! We were instructed to hold up our legs as high and as close to our bodies as we could, and we all zipped down unscathed.

Predator Zip Lines has a photographer that takes photos at specific spots of the tour (to buy), which is how we got all these awesome photos! We also had the option to explore Out of Africa Wildlife Park (separate ticket), but Chris and I headed back to Sedona.

KOW BEFORE YOU GO

  • Wear comfortable clothes like a t-shirt and leggings, that you don’t mind getting dusty.
Before touching any lines, you’ll be suited up in a harness. I wore leggings and a flannel, which were comfortable and not too bulky. Expect to get pretty dusty on the jeep ride over to the first tower.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, like sneakers.
There’s not too much walking, since the lines basically take you where you need to go, but you will need to climb a decent amount of steps up the first tower.
  • Be prepared to wear a helmet.
Do whatever you need to do with your hair so your helmet fits right. Safety first!
  • Travel light.
You can’t (or shouldn’t) bring anything with you on the tour, but you can bring a small bag and leave it at the main building where the tour starts/ends.
  • Smile for the camera!
Predator Zip Lines has a photographer that takes photos of you at specific spots of the tour. At the end of the tour, you can view all the photos and decide if you’d like to purchase the package.
  • Check the requirements.
There are age and weight requirements for this zip line tour. Check the Predator Zip Lines website before booking anything.
  • Location, location.
Out of Africa Wildlife Park is in Camp Verde, AZ, which is about a 40 minute drive from Sedona, AZ.

This was an incredible experience, and I’m so glad we did it! Highly recommend if you are in the area.

HAPPY ZIPPING!
